I am looking for ideas to make steaming vegetables with chicken or fish more exciting.
for example, I found out that carrots combined with cauliflower and onions steamed together really tastes very well together.
or simple ideas to spice up or add more flavour to the monotony?
Thanks for your answers!Where can I find simple (and I do mean simple) recipes or ideas for steaming vegetables?
Add some garlic and some herbs like tarragon or thyme which go well with chicken. Sugar snap peas or mange tout and baby sweetcorn are nice too.Where can I find simple (and I do mean simple) recipes or ideas for steaming vegetables?
Any combination of vegetables is exciting, and looks appetising.
I suggest you arrange them carefully in your steamer to keep the different ones separate. Sometimes a mixture of vegetables may look pretty when raw, but less attractive after cooking. Separate piles does improve the look, in general.
You need to be bold and try things out. Think about the textures and density of the different vegetables, and time them accordingly. It's a good idea to cut very firm or dense things (like carrots) into quite small slices so that they cook more quickly. Of course, you can add the more delicate things closer to the end of the cooking time.
So try things out. I don't think you can really go wrong when combining different vegetables. Try to have a variety of colours - good nutritionally as well as aesthetically. Have fun!
Steamed string beans are excellent appetizers!
Cut string beans to at least 1 inch long, steam for 2 minutes then garnish it with diced onions %26amp; ginger, pinch of salt and a little vinegar. That's a healthy one!
