I'm in college, so I have little money and little cooking experience. I need some ideas for recipes that can serve about 10 people, would take less than 90 minutes to make and don't require a lot of ingredients. What are some simple recipes for a college student to make?
when i was in school, we all ways made homemade mac and cheese with bacon and a saladWhat are some simple recipes for a college student to make?
Make chilli- mince, canned tomatos, chilli powder, a tiny bit of dark chocolate, tomato paste, kidney beans, and perhaps some fresh chillies depending on how hot you like it. You can also throw any other veg that you might like in there- eg mushrooms, courgettes. just brown the mince and throw all the other ingredients in and cook until it tastes good, probably about 20 minutes. It actually tastes better if you make it the day before, leave it in the fridge and re-heat. This brings the flavour out.
You can serve it with whatever you like- rice, pitta bread, tortilla chips, tortilla wraps etc. Serve with sour cream to cool it down a bit!
Chili and rice is a great meal that takes very little time and effort. It's also very cheap. A can of chili costs less than a buck and the amount of rice that you need to make a meal for one will cost only cents. To make the chili, it just needs to be emptied into a pot and warned up on a stove top. It's pre-cooked. The rice need only be boiled in a pot of water until soft and fluffy. About a cup will do. To make it even easier, you can buy rice cookers with simple instructions to make perfectly timed and cooked rice. To add additional flavor and taste, you can add cheese or onions to really bring the meal together.
Try this it's a easy and quick plus cheap meal...Buy some chicken tenders from the meat dept. $3-$4 dollars...Put some veg. oil in a baking pan add the tenders and sprinkle some seasoning on them...Bake at 350 for 20 mins...Fix some veg. with it and there is your meal...Another idea for the chicken is cut it into small pieces and add it to a salad...
Anything with potatoes. Whipped with green onions and butter. Roasted with garlic and thyme. Baked with your favourite toppings.
