Anyone know any simple recipes for people just beginning to cook?

i would like to cook but dont know where to start.Anyone know any simple recipes for people just beginning to cook?
Usually anything that has to be made in a crock pot or making some kind of cassarole is probably the easiest. But you shouldn't limit yourself. I learned to cook when I first started in college and did not want to just eat out everyday. One of the first things I learned to make was baked chicken and baked fries. You can get some raw chicken (breast, thighs, etc), lightly oil them and then put on any seasonings that you may have in your kitchen (season salt, old bay seasoning, steak seasoning, chicken seasoning, etc are probably a good type of seasoning to start out with) and then bake for 375 * F for 20 mins and then check to see if it is done (when there is no more pink and the juices run clear... but it would be helpful to get a meat therm. as well). For the fries, get some potatoes and clean them really good. Then cut them into 4's and then also put oil on them like you would with the chicken. Then season them with salt %26amp; pepper and then bake at 375* F for 15 to 20 mins and then check them and take them out to how firm you want them to be.

Also the good ol' shake n' bake is a great learning technique. This is where you would take the raw chicken and then dip it in a beaten egg (you could also use water if you are low on eggs) and then dip it in the shake n' bake and then put the chicken in an oven pan lined with foil and bake that for 350 to 375 for 25 mins (but always check for doneness 5 mins before so that you don't over cook the meat). And once you get this concept down, then you can just replace the shake and bake crumbs with your own crushed up crackers, chips, corn flakes, dried bread crumbs etc. and add in some seasoning to it to help add in your own twist.

Remember, cooking is just a trial and error thing. If you find something that is great, then challenge yourself and try to do it a little differently next time (add in seasoning, add in some hot sauce, etc.). And if you ended up making something that didn't exactly turn out right, then either toss it and never speak of it again.... or try to figure out where you went wrong and maybe see what the dish is lacking and try again next time.Anyone know any simple recipes for people just beginning to cook?
spegetti or a homemade chili is good.

my chili is simple

1lb of hamburger or italian sausage( your choice or you can use both.

2 15 oz cans of tomato sauce

2 15 oz cans of diced tomatoes (mexican style for spice)

2 15 oz cans of kidney beans

spices: chili powder, slat, pepper, garlic, onion

couple drops of tabasco sauce (red)

fresh zuchini

stalk of celery and a large yellow onion

Sometimes i uses fresh garlic for added flavor

brown your hamburger with the spices

add in the celery and diced onion, cook together for about 10 mins.

add in the tomatoes, tomato sauce, kidney beans and zuchini and the couple drops opf tabasco

Simer for 30 mins stiring occasionally or until the celery and zuchini are soft.

I usually cook mine in a crockpot but any large pot should work.. I taught myself this recipe.
I suggest you start with foods you like and then look up recipes. Cooking is REALLY simple. What makes food taste GOOD is spices and herbs. You need to learn what spices you like with certain foods.

For instance I like Rosemary with potatos and chicken.

Garlic bread is just bread which you butter and sprinkle with garlic powder and broil in the oven face open for 2 minutes tops!

Spaghetti, you can't go wrong with, just a bought sauce and a good parmesan cheese to top it with.

Meatballs: ground beef, bread crumbs, an egg, chop a wee bit of garlic and parsley, roll, fry on low, throw into sauce. (I prefer just tomato sauce, and I add garlic and olive oil rather than buy sauce). Let it all cook up on slow.

Salads? Buy lettuce and the ready made packs for caesar salad.

Fish? Just put non stick foil inside a pan, lay a fillet of fish down, add lots of butter, cover and bake. Squeeze some lime or lemon on afterwards. Add dill while cooking if you prefer.

Stew? Just throw all your favourite veggies and cubed beef in a pot, cover with enough water to cover everything plus an inch, and slow cook for an hour or so. Season with spices like pepper/salt. I add some steak sauce for flavour. Eat with fresh buttered bread to dip.

Roast? Cover with water, throw in an onion, bake for 2 hours at 325. Add Bisto instant gravy to drippings for gravy. Boil and mash potatos (with butter and milk). Steam veggies. Voila!

I mean the list goes on, simple is best, and study what herbs work with foods. Watch the cooking shows too, lots of great ideas there.
start with jiffie peanut butter chocolate chip cookies

2 1/4 cups flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. salt

3/4 cup butter (softened)

1/4 cup peanut butter (Jiffy's the best)

3/4 cup sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar

1 tsp. vanilla extract

2 eggs

1 cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven at 350.

Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl and set aside. Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixing bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Gradually add flour mixture. Stir in Chocolate Chips.

If you make cookies, they cook for 11 to 13 minutes. If you want to make bars, they'll cook for 20 to 25 minutes.

you can also make spegettie, macaronie, ummm.....just dont try anything fancy thats all I got to say.
This free ebook has 490 award winning recipes, I think I saw what you're looking for in it.
I started cooking couscous, get the plain kind and experiment with spices, you will get familer with everything, and it almost always turns out good.

(dont forget the salt)

tip: put the spices in the water than boil instead of mixing them in after, so the water sokes the spices flavor and so will the couscous
BUY a beginner's cook book. You can find a recipe and keep it laying open in the kitchen while you cook. There are a number of beginners cookbooks in any book store

4. In a rush? Smithfield, Hormel, Armour have packages of PRE-COOKED beef tips, roast, pot roast, pork roast, chicken, ham, meatload. Use this for your meat dish with a side dish or two of vegetables, rice, or potatoes. You will find these packages near the meat section, they are not frozen.

5. Tyson's fully cooked whole chickens are delicious. I serve them often with S%26amp;W canned sweet potatoes, Stove-Top dressing, microwave chicken/turkey gravy in jars, a canned vegetable, canned cranberry sauce, and frozen Pillsbury Microwave Biscuits which are better than I can make. A frozen pie defrosted and fully cooked. Perfect for one or two people at Thanksgiving or Christmas.

6. Another thing you can do is cook in a slow cooker or a crock-pot. You put the meat meal into the crock-pot in the morning and it cooks all day long. The meal is ready at dinner time. Crock-pots can be bought at your grocery store, WalMart, Target, etc. BE SURE to read the booklet that comes with the crock-pot.

Here are some crock-pot recipes for you:

7. If you are in a hurry, go to your grocery store and pick up a roasted chicken that you can buy in the deli section. They also have side dishes such as veggies, salads, desserts, and etc.

8. Frozen dinners are always a good choice. Our favorites are Stouffer's, Marie Calendar's, Michael Angelo's, Boston Market's. Just add a side dish, salad, or fruit salad. Desserts can be bought at their bakery section.
